Hygienists
The skills of a Hygienist have increased over the years and today’s Hygienist can offer many new state of the art treatments such as full mouth disinfection and application of antimicrobials and air polishing.
What do Dental hygienists do?
Our hygienists, or therapists as they’re sometimes referred to as, train for 3-4 years at University and whilst working from our Manchester based dental practice, can perform many procedures on our returning patients, who tend to keep a 3 month repeat visit for a regular scale and polish, which helps to build a positive rapport between the patient and practitioner.
The types of treatments that our dental hygienists can vary, but some of the more common dental procedures are simple fillings and extractions, which can be performed on adults or children; scale and polishes, which as mentioned before can be part of a 3 month repeat visit schedule. Our hygienists can treat complex gum disease cases, and can provide airflow treatments. An airflow treatment is a mini sand blaster that gets rid of hard to shift stains such as tea and coffee stains.
One of the most important parts of the hygienist role is to provide and implement preventative treatments such as fluoride application to prevent tooth decay, as we all know, prevention is better than a cure; however, our smile gallery shows that we’re pretty good at providing the cure too.
