Why regular dental examinations are so important

Ask any qualified dentist and the chances are that they will tell you that one of the most crucial aspects of their patient service is to conduct a regular and thorough dental check-up. At Carisbrook Dental that is certainly the case and we recommend to virtually every one of our patients that they should book an appointment for a professional dental examination every six months. This allows our dentists to keep an expert eye on the condition of their teeth and gums and if we do happen to spot a potential problem then the chances are we can treat it there and then before it develops into something more serious that requires more extensive dental treatment.

A regular, twice-yearly dental check-up is absolutely vital if you wish to maintain healthy teeth and gums. It’s important to note though that as part of the Carisbrook dental check-up we also conduct a careful examination to look for any signs of oral cancer. Not every dentist does this! We, however, thoroughly check your teeth, gums, tongue, lips, throat and neck – both inside and outside your mouth - for any indication of what could be a deadly condition. The sooner this is spotted and the appropriate treatment provided then the better are your chances that cancer can be dealt with quickly and efficiently.

A typical dental check-up takes about 30-minutes and our dental team will undertake a careful inspection of your teeth and gums as well as your overall oral health. We’ll probably also take digital dental X-rays to look inside your teeth and gums and any findings will be carefully and clearly discussed with you. We also take intra-oral photos to show you any problems and discuss possible solutions.

The chances are, if you attend a twice-yearly dental check-up, we’ll be able to give you a clean bill of health. But … should we spot any possible problem then rest assured we’ll explain all the treatment options to you and we’ll also provide a detailed cost estimate.
