Why More Toothache Sufferers are Visiting A&E Instead of their Dentist

NHS spending drop has painful repercussions for a growing number of patients

A report published this week in a leading national newspaper has revealed that the government spend per NHS patient has fallen by £4.95 (from £40.95 to £36) over the last five years. Just as alarming, reports the article, the income from fees charged to patients went up from £653 million to £777 million and this has resulted in more and more patients delaying treatment because they could not afford the fees. The other effect of these rising costs is that instead of visiting a dentist more patients with dental problems are turning to A&E or their GP – neither of whom are properly trained or equipped to help them. There is, however, a third way for patients to obtain dental treatment. That is to go to a private dentist and believe it or not, it is nowhere near as expensive as you may think. At Carisbrook we have been established in Manchester for over 60-years and time and time again we have proved that our practice and providing best Dentist in Manchester, our professionalism and our methods mean that patients can see a dentist without delay, without lengthy waiting lists and that our costs are remarkably competitive when compared to the constantly rising NHS fees.Just as importantly, patients who do visit their dentist regularly for routine check-ups and hygiene treatment generally enjoy far better dental health and require considerably less treatment. The result? Much less suffering from dental problems and far less expenditure on dental fees!At Carisbrook our emphasis is always on preventative dentistry and as such we go to great lengths to ensure that every patient’s teeth, gums and general dental health are monitored and maintained in tip-top condition. One of the ways we do this is to recommend regular dental check-ups, where the dentist or dental hygienist can keep a close eye on the condition of your teeth and if a potential problem is spotted we can then take immediate steps to prevent it developing into a major and expensive issue. We also pass on professional advice on a diet as well as cleaning advice that is proven to prevent unnecessary dental problems. For instance we recommend that you should always clean your teeth twice a day – as soon as you get up in a morning and then again last thing at night before you go to bed. You should always use fluoride toothpaste and a good medium bristle brush. You should also brush your teeth for at least two minutes every time. Regular flossing is also important because this cleans between your teeth where brushing cannot reach.Take a look at our cleaning advice page for videos and further advice. The other good news is that at Carisbrook we offer a very affordable Payment Plan for just a small monthly fee starting from only 37p per day (and even less for children). The benefits of this plan include:

  1. Two dental health examinations per year, including oral cancer health checks.
  2. Two hygienist appointments per year including preventive advice.
  3. All routine dental x-rays.
  4. 20% discount on routine treatments (excluding specialist treatments and cosmetic treatments).
  5. Dental injury-cover up to £10,000 per year.
  6. Up to £12,000 cover for one course of oral cancer treatment including smokers.
